What it is

These apps take skills that are complicated, that matter, and that go stale when they aren't used, and put them into the classroom half of the drill — on the TV in class, and on the crew's phones after. The pilot puts them in front of departments through people those departments already deal with — a rope instructor, a gear rep — instead of a cold email from me.

Rope Rescue Systems Trainer

Three rope systems built one step at a time on a 3-D drawing you can spin — the twin-tension Clutch lower to raise, the skate block, and a rappel to a pick-off. Every step goes on with the reason, and the manufacturer's own sentence is one tap away.

• The demo is yours. You carry it in and run it on their TV.
